Day 2

Well day 2 is finally over and I've collected a good amount of watse. I'm pretty sure that I collected more on day 2 than on day 1. The end result will come in class when I way each bag from both days. I'm pretty excited about finding out how much each bag weighs and then trying to calculate it for the entire year. Hopefully this will help me better myself and the environment.

It's definitely going to be weird going to school with bags of garbage. Not something that you see someone doing everyday. Then again this is New York so I guess it's not all that uncommon. The experiment is over and I'm happy for that. Once I get the overall info I will let everyone know how it turned out.

Day 1

Now that day 1 is over I've collected everything that I touched and would normally throw out or recycle. I put everything in a plastic bag and I even doubled it for extra support. The bag actually feels somewhat heavy. Not like ten pounds heavy, but a decent amount for one days worth of wastes. Now it's time for me to tell you what I collected. On day 1 I've collected a 1 liter flavoured sparkling water, .5 liter bottle water, half gallon milk, 20 fl oz flavoured water, four 100 calorie snack packs, two plum seeds, small remainder of an apple, a napkin, tissue from the gym, alumium foil which is holding the fruit seeds, toilet paper which is clean by the way, and four unwanted letters of mail. Now that's a nice amount of stuff for one day.

To make things a little easier I decided that I will collect watse for one day and put it in a bag and label it day 1, 2 and so forth. Then once I've finished I will put all of the bags into one big bag and then show it off like a nice trophy.

Day 1 is over and now starts day 2. Wish me luck.

Blog #4/ Collecting the trash experiment

Today I start my trash collection experiment. I started it before I even got to class. So far I've collected two napkins that I used to blow my nose. Thought you should know. It's nothing nasty and I rolled up the napkins into balls so that nothing can be seen or possibly leak out. Wow! there's no way to not make this experiment not sound gross. Well anyway I haven't touched anything since then so when I do collect more items I will com back and write it down.

Blog #3

For this blog I'm supposed to inventory everything that I've touched all day and determine wheter or not it's recyclable. Being that everyday I touch different things I'll list down the things that I normally use or touch on a daily basis. On any normal day the items that I touch or use are; toilet paper, tissue paper, writing paper, recites, plastic bags, paper towels, water bottles, juice bottles, grape stems, apple pits and seeds, banana peels, tuna fish cans, pens, milk cartons, Styrofoam cups, aluminum containers, deodorant stick, shampoo bottle, soap box, laundry detergent bottle, bleach bottle, cereal box andvideo games cases. Obviously there is more but that will be written during my two day experiment which be more detailed about daily uses. Just thinking about having to carry around all or some of these items kind of has me second guesing my topic choice. But I'm going to have to manage and ride it out.

Blog # 2 / Reducing Your Daily Impact continues and watse consumptions

Once again I'm here to talk about reducing your daily impact. I'm going to try and not mention all that I have already but I have a feeling that I will anyway. This is a serious topic that I think people need to be reminded of more than just once or twice. Reducing your daily impact is very important because our population just continues to grow. And as that happens we produce more waste.

We produce Millions of tons of waste a year, 4.6 pounds by a person a day, and more than seventy percent is not recycled. Just imagine if we were to recycle all the recyclable wastes. Glass, metals and paper are some the recyclable items that many simply throw away as normal garbage. Due to this many landfills are over filled and then have to close because of health and environmental issues. When over filled all of that garbage then turns into other matter such as liguid and then seeps into our water systems. I don't know about anyone else but I really would't want to take drink or shower from a waste infested water system.

Besides the contamination of water toxins can be release into the air and create a hazardous breathing environment. Who would want that? The main idea again is to recycle. If we recycle we use less energy for combustion and release less carbon dixoide into the atmosphere which is the basis of global warming.

With all of that said I'm going to do an experiment. I am going to collect all of my garbage watses for two days. Then after the two days I'm going to weigh the waste to see how much we produce on a daily basis. And see if that 4.6 pounds is true or not. Once that is calculated I will then calculate the weight for an entire year. I will keep on posting to let everyone know on how my progress is going. This will be an interesting and possibly bad smelling experiment. It's all in the good nature for nature.

Blog #1 / Decreasing Your Daily Impact

So for those who aren't in my class and happened to stumble upon my blog, I'm supposed to write about my daily environmental impact. As I said in the blog before this one I just recently started to actually care about the environment. It was a few years ago that I began to decrease my daily impact. I began to recycle and tried to use less electricity, especially with my airconditioner. More recently I've been trying to buy biodegradeable products which buy the way are hard to find in my opinion.

It's hard to sometimes break out of my old habits and I usually have to stop myself from doing something that isn't good for the environment. I'll catch myself doing something and in the middle of doing it I have to remind myself of the effects that it will have on the environment. One thing that I seem to always kind of fight with is littering. I still do litter at times but I can't be blamed for the trash cans that always seem to not be there when I have something to throw away. It really can be a pain when I have to walk for blocks and blocks and not pass by one trash can. It's like a conspiracy. Almost as if I weren't meant to properly get rid of trash.

I basically try to do the little things that count. Sometimes those little things can be a hassle for me. Besides the trash thing, during the summer I would try to not use my air conditioner as much as possible. The weird thing is that my Ac is one of those energy star Ac's which already use less energy than other air conditoners. So I was really trying to conserve energy and reduce the carbon dioxide being released into the air. I even try to wash my clothes at night which creates less heat than it would during the day. I also wash my clothes in cold water to also prevent the use of energy that creates the hot water.

Like I said before it's the little things that I do to try and help with global warming. So far it's somewhat worked because I've got my mother into it as well. Now thats two more people fighting against global warming and if you join then the chain can grow and keep on growing.

Help Save Earth....Now !!

This being my first blog and all I'm hoping that anyone who cares about ending or severely slowing down global warming, will do just that. There's simple things that everyone can do to help with ending global warming. Simple things such as recycling, using energy efficient air conditioners and, for those who can, buy hybrid cars. It's the small things that can make big impacts. Obviously the process of ending this problem will take years of hard dedication. It's not easy breaking out of old habits. When I was younger I never really put any interest into the whole idea of trying to save earth. As I got older something just clicked and I began to care about earth. I began to recycle and use less electricity. I'm not here trying to preach about the issue because that's just not me. All I am saying is that if people just started to really look at the whole picture of what we're doing to earth and not ignore it then we can prevent further destruction.
